NOTE: All school volunteers must be in compliance with the Archdiocesan mandated volunteer requirements. This includes a Background Check, Online Training and a signed Code of Conduct. Please check your status at virtusonline.org. If you don't have a Virtus account, you can find instructions for setup on this page.

To check what you are signed up for and what you have completed toward your volunteer commitment, fill out the "Your Volunteer Info" box below. You will be emailed a link to your personal volunteer information. The report is per person, not per family at this time, so if both spouses have volunteered toward the family commitment you would need to look at each person's report and add up the hours. The report does not display shifts that have passed but have not been marked as completed yet (there can be a small lag for us to review and enter who completed their shifts). This report may include hours done in prior school years. Please pay attention to the individual shifts and their dates, not the historical totals, as only hours completed this school year count toward this year's volunteer commitment.
Please email [email protected] if you need to cancel a shift.
Sign up each person individually using their first & last name and the email address at which they currently receive school communications. The system matches sign ups to your account using that information. Please do not sign up combinations of names (ie listing first name as "Joseph or Mary") on one sign up or use your email address when signing up a spouse as it will create a new user and you will not receive confirmation emails. Sign ups are only for adults or high school age or older students, please do not sign up Middle Level students for these shifts. Thank you.
Yearly Volunteer Requirement:
Q: Can I bring my child/children with me while I’m volunteering?
A: No (except for the few volunteer positions that specifically state you may bring your preschooler). Giving 100% to your volunteer job is your priority. Unless it’s an event where we’ve asked for student help, children are not allowed to tag along. Bringing children without permission will forfeit your hours.
Q: Can my middle level student volunteer to complete service hours for school?
A: Middle level students may not be signed up for our family volunteer commitment events. We need adult assistance. We occasionally have events where we ask for student volunteers, and they may receive student service hours for these tasks. Student service hours do not count toward the family volunteer commitment. These student opportunities will not be included in the volunteer section on our website but will be advertised in other ways throughout the year.
Q: Can my high school student fulfill my volunteer hours and receive high school service hours?
A: High School students may volunteer only if you work with Cindy Rohr, Safe Environment Coordinator, before signing them up to ensure that they are Virtus compliant. The Virtus requirements for minors differ from adults. Cindy will work with you individually. Please contact her 2 weeks prior to the volunteering event. The name on the volunteer sign-up is the person that needs to show up, so you must sign the high schooler up by name. Sending your unapproved high school student or anyone other than the name signed up will forfeit your hours. This is a Virtus liability.
Please be sure to have the student bring their high school service log to be signed by the event lead.
Q: Can my spouse or someone else fill in at the last minute for me?
A: No. All volunteers need to be Virtus trained, and the training needs to be up to date. We verify all volunteers are current prior to the event. Sending someone else will forfeit your hours even if they are compliant with training, because we can’t verify their status at the last minute. There needs to be prior approval from the school if someone else is volunteering in your spot.
Q: If a last minute (day of) conflict happens, what should I do?
A: Life happens, and plans change. Should you not be able to fulfill your volunteer commitment, you need to be in contact with the event lead. We are counting on you to help make the event a success. Failure to communicate with the event lead will forfeit your hours.
Q: If I arrive early, will I receive additional volunteer time?
A: No. Arriving 5-10 min prior to your scheduled start time is recommended so the event can stay on schedule and instructions can be given. Arriving more than 5-10 min before your scheduled time, without prior approval or permission, will not allow you to receive additional volunteer time.
Q: If I arrive late, will I still receive my full amount of time?
A: No. Should you arrive late, your arrival time will be reported to the school, and adjustments to your hours will be made. Unless we ask you to stay longer than scheduled, staying late will not make up hours for late arrival.
Q: If I stay late, will I receive additional volunteer time?
A: There may be times where an event is running behind schedule, and we may ask a few volunteers to stay longer if possible. If that is the case, the event lead will follow up with the school and provide names and compensation amounts for additional volunteer time, above and beyond the originally scheduled time. Additional hours will only be granted with permission from the event lead.
Q: If my spouse/student/child joins me during my shift, but is not signed up to work at the event, can they receive volunteer hours?
A: No. While it’s always nice to have additional help, all volunteers need to be signed up prior to the event, be Virtus trained, and we need to have verified that the training is up to date prior to the event.
Q: Do I need to have my Virtus training completed if I’m volunteering at an event with no kids present (i.e. Bids for Kids)?
A: Yes. It’s required by the Archdiocese, church, and school that all volunteers need to be Virtus trained, and the training needs to be up to date, before volunteering for the school.
Q: How do I check if my Virtus status is current?
A: Check your status by logging in to your Virtus account at virtusonline.org. If all squares are green, you are compliant. Any red squares need to be completed before you volunteer. If you are due for a new background check, please complete the form online. More information is available on our Virtus webpage: https://stmcatholicschool.org/volunteer-virtus-e3
Q: What if I am unable to help during the day or I have childcare restrictions that make traditional volunteering tricky.
A: The school has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities including many jobs that can be done at home in your own time and opportunities to donate items to receive volunteer hours.
Q: Can a grandparent fulfill our family hours?
A: Yes, as long as they have completed the Virtus training, have a background check on file, and the training is up to date. Please be sure to let the school know which family they are fulfilling hours for.
Q: Why did I not receive all of the hours for a task?
A: If you do not meet or follow the job requirements listed in the job description, or given to you by the event lead, the event lead will follow up with the school. If it’s found that you did not complete the task as expected, you will not receive full compensation. This could lead you to needing to find additional events to fulfill your hours.
