No, being Catholic is not a requirement for enrollment at StMCS. However, all students will be taught about the Catholic faith in religion class and attend prayer services and Mass with their class.
St. Michael Catholic School has approximately 435 students enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. There are an additional 60 children enrolled in our preschool program.
The average class size in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade is 23 students.
St. Michael Catholic School generally follows the St. Michael-Albertville District calendar for breaks and non-instructional days. Typically the year begins the Tuesday after Labor Day and concludes in early June. The StMCS academic calendar is shared with families in August.
School begins at 7:35am each day and ends at 2:00pm.
Bussing is available for students that reside in or attend daycare in the St. Michael-Albertville school district through Don's Bus Company. Families that reside outside of the district boundaries must provide their own transportation. There are limited areas adjacent to the district boundaries where bussing may be available for a fee.
The Catholic faith is an integral part of everything we do at StMCS. The school community gathers together at the beginning of each week for prayer, announcements, birthday celebrations, and worship music. Students begin each day in prayer and learn about our faith in Religion class. Students attend Mass together each week. Students in 2nd grade prepare for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Eighth graders learn about and discern receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.
Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade attend Mass each Wednesday at our church on Frankfort Parkway. Students are dropped off at the church Wednesday mornings and are bussed back to school after Mass. Younger students are partnered with an older buddy to sit with during Mass. Each class has the opportunity to plan two (2) Masses during the year as well as participate in the Mass by proclaiming the Word, reading a petition, bringing up the gifts and/or singing in the choir. Students in grade 6 and older are trained to be altar servers.
St. Michael Catholic School does have a dress code for all students. Students in Kindergarten through grade 4 wear navy bottoms with a red school polo. Middle Level students may choose navy or khaki bottoms to wear with their dress code tops. Please refer to our dress code policy for specifics. The policy also descibes expectations for "Non Dress Code" days.
St. Michael Catholic School offers after-school care, called Kids Club, in our school building each day as well as on some non school days. Kids Club is available for students in Kindergarten through grade 6 until 5:30pm each day. Please see the Kids Club page on our website for more information.
Throughout the year there are enrichment classes offered for all grade levels. Past class offerings have included KidzArt, Lego, book clubs, chess, and babysitting courses.
Students in grades 7 and 8 have the opportunity to participate in athletics and extracurricular activities offered through the STMA middle schools. Bussing is available.
The majority of our 8th grade graduates attend St. Michael-Albertville High School, while some choose to continue their Catholic education at one of many metro Catholic high schools.
